2023 will be the year that Social Care…'moves forward to embrace more digital'

We're willing to bet there aren't many people in Social Care who don't know Palvi. That's because she's one of the sector's most visible champions, whether that's on LinkedIn, at industry events, or, most recently, in published academic research.

She started Serene Care with her partner Jay with the mission of delivering 'a revolution in Social Care', drawing on her experiences working in investment banking. Coming from the high-tech financial services sector, it was clear to them from the outset that they would need to digitise to be successful. Examples include one-touch scanners for recording care, video calls for staff training, shared drives for documents and systems and processes for monitoring and supporting their care teams. The result is an award-winning care home group that achieves consistent 'Good' ratings in CQC inspections and enjoys 95%+ occupancy rates.

What sets Palvi apart is her dedication to sharing her knowledge and championing transformation in Social Care. Last year, she also found time to collaborate on a recent Kings College London study looking into how to support the digitisation of small care home providers.

And as part of the Institute of Health and Social Care Management's Social Care she has been instrumental in some prominent projects championing the sector and its workforce, such as the People Plan for Social Care and the Green Heart For Social Care Initiative.

Describe your 2022 in one word:

Busy!

What a year for change! We had so many digital transformation programs happen over our homes

What was your / your team’s biggest achievement in 2022?

Having such a great attitude towards taking on digital technology.

What was the biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?

It has been so difficult trying to get funding and support towards these programmes. We are spending time looking online to hopefully get some help towards them and advocate for change.

What are your priorities for 2023?

Let’s find new systems to make a difficult role and time easier! Let’s automate as much as we can so that we relieve as much pressure off our staff as possible.

Name a skill or habit you would like to cultivate this year:

Take a bit of time to focus on self care.

Which bit of tech (hardware or software) could you not live without?
